11 Girls Rescued From Two Dance Bars In Thamel

A coordination of Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC), Shubha  Awasar Gram Nepal, Media Advocacy Group (MAG) and District Police, Kathmandu rescued 11 girls from two dance bars located in Thamel on the night of October 6.

A collaborative operation involving the District Police, INSEC, Shubha Awasar Gram Nepal, Media Advocacy Group (MAG), and the Joint Rescue Team for Women, Children, Senior Citizens, and Dalit Service Center in Kalimati, acted upon information regarding the exploitation of minors working in various dance and singing bars in Thamel. A total of ten girls were rescued from Amir Lodge and Bar, and one from Mini Haven Dance Bar.

The health examination of the rescued girls was done at the People’s Medical College, Sorakhutte on October 6 and kept in the safe house of Subha Awasar Gram in Sinamangal.

Bikas Dhungana, the program manager of the Subha Awasar Gram, stated that the rescued children will undergo counseling and will be provided with education and training according to their needs and will be handed over to their parents.

SSP Bhupendra Khatri of the District Police Premises, Kathmandu emphasized that dance bars exploiting children through forced labor, causing physical and mental harm, and unpaid wages, will face legal action in accordance with the Children’s Act, 2018.
