Police arrested four Gen Z activists, Majid Ansari, 27; Monika Niroula, 25; Riya Baniya, 23; and Sarisma Thapa, 25—on July 11 while they were attempting to assess the condition of residents at the Radhaswami Holding Centre in Kirtipur.
According to reports, Majid Ansari was injured after being allegedly beaten by police during the arrest. He is currently receiving treatment at Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj.
According to the activists, they arrived at the holding centre at around 3:00 p.m. to assess the condition of sukumbasi (landless settlers) affected by the flooding. However, they said police prevented them from entering the facility.
Activist Sarisma Thapa alleged that police used force during a dispute that arose after they were denied entry to the holding centre.
