The Government of Nepal approved the Sixth National Human Rights Action Plan on July 8, 2026 with the objective of further strengthening the protection, promotion, and effective implementation of human rights.
Approved by a Cabinet decision, the action plan outlines various aspects of human rights while clearly defining the responsibilities of relevant agencies, implementation mechanisms, and monitoring procedures.
Through the action plan, the government has prioritized the effective implementation of constitutional provisions and Nepal’s obligations under international human rights instruments to which it is a party. It also emphasizes the promotion of good governance, access to justice, and the protection of the rights of women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, Dalits, Indigenous peoples, Madhesis, Muslims, and other marginalized communities.
The government has stated that effective implementation of the action plan will be ensured through necessary coordination among the concerned ministries, departments, and agencies, along with regular monitoring.
