Title: Report on Civilian Casualties of Victim-activated Explosions (January-September) 2008

Summary

From 1 January to 30 September 2008, INSEC district representatives reported 31 incidents with 57 casualties. All the five regions had incidents of victim-activated explosions with central region having the highest number of incidents (12) with 30 casualties, followed by eastern region (8 incidents, 12 casualties) and mid-western region (8 incidents, 9 casualties). Bara and Morang had the highest number of incidents (3) with six casusalties each but Mahottari had the highest number of casualties (7) in two incidents. 23 districts out of 75 had the victim-activated explosions causing civilian casualties. Sunsari, Saptari, Rautahat and Parsa are the new districts where no incidents had been recorded earlier since the INSEC Surveillance System started in June 2006. Among the casualties, 4 were killed and 53 were injured. Among the deceased, two persons died in a single incident in Jajarkot district.
