Allegation on Police of not Arresting an Accused of Abetment to Suicide

The victim filed a complaint against Jordan Bikram Shrestha,30, of Siddharthnagar Municipality-1, an accused abetting Lalmati Khatri Chhetri, 22 of Pyuthan Municiplaity-5, Jumrikanda Purgaon to commit suicide as per the complaint filed by victim’s family at  District Police Office Rupandehi.

Tekraj Khatri, the deceased’s brother, has accused the police of not arresting the accused. After receiving the news of the death of her sister on December 19, he immediately filed a complaint with the District Police Office. According to him, the evidence found in her room indicates that she was pushed to take this decision.

The victim’s brother said that even after 10 days after the incident, the police have neither arrested the accused nor investigated the case. In protest, the victim’s family hasn’t received her dead body yet.

According to  Bishnu Kshetri, the victim’s neighbor, the accused was in Lalmati’s room until the evening of  December 18. He then heard the sound of her room’s door being opened at 4 am on December 19. After that there was no movement inside the room, this seemed suspicious. When he peeked through the window, he realized that something was wrong and informed the police.

Tekraj Khatri said that the police say that there is not enough evidence to arrest the accused. However,  the citizenship of the accused and his clothes were found in his sister’s room. There are various social media chats and videos to show his involvement in this case.t

Regarding the incident, District Police Office SP Ravindra Regmi said that although a case of abetment to suicide was registered in the district court, the arrest could not be made because the court has not issued an arrest warrant.

The post-mortem of the dead body was conducted on December 20 at Lumbini Regional Hospital Butwal.
