20 Children Rescued from Children’s Home

The Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security rescued 20 children from Nepal Children’s Organization on 18 July 2026. The Ministry conducted a monitoring visit based on the complaint and videos received regarding the state of the children living there. The monitoring was conducted by a joint team of Child Helpline (104) and the Ministry. During the monitoring it was found that the cleanliness situation was compromised, toilets and bathrooms were dirty and floors were slippery, water clogs inside the compound of the organization, children of different age were accommodated together.  

 

According to the Ministry a situation like this could be extremely risky for children’ s health, safety and their overall well being. The Ministry stated it had previously repeatedly given directions and held dialogues with the organisation on proper management of its physical infrastructure, cleanliness and child friendly accommodation facilities. Ministry shared despite of its repeated directions the organisation did noimprove as expected.  As informed by Gyanu Poudel, a member of House of Representative, the monitoring was conducted after receiving complaints and videos that showed the miserable living conditions of the children. The team was able to successfully rescue and safely relocate 20 children.

 

The Ministry added it is working closely with the concerned department to conduct medical examinationmake arrangement for necessary care, to protect and rehabilitate them. The Ministry has stated it has also proceeded further with the required legal and administrative process related to the incident, regarding the other children it will further evaluate their condition along with continuing the monitoring visits and will accordingly make necessary decisions.
