Accused of Inhuman Treatment Sentenced to Imprisonment

Ramdev Chaudhary, 50, his wife Sunitadebi Chaudhary, 40, their son Prakash Chaudhary, 23, their daughter-in-law Babita Chaudhary, 40, Ramdev’s sister-in-law, Shree Kumari Chaudary, 40, have been sentenced to six months imprisonment for the crime of physical abuse and inhuman treatment. They were on trial for abusing Ramdev’s Sister-in-law, Pujakumari Chaudary,27, and Pujakumari Chaudhary of Agnisair Krishnaswaran Rural Municiplaity-2 after accusing her of ‘witchcraft’.

The bench of District Judge, Dr. Rajendra Kumar Acharya, sentenced the accused to six-month imprisonment along with NPR. 5000 fine. The bench ruled for a victim’s compensation of NPR. 3,000 from each of the accused. Ramdev’s brother, Shyamdev Chaudhary, 40, was acquitted.

The victim complained at the Kanchanrup Area Police Office, on January 26, 2022. The complaint stated that she was physically assaulted by her husband’s family after being accused of witchcraft on  January 24,  2022.

The Area Police registered the complaint on February 3, 2022. Among the accused, the police arrested Ramdev and Sunita on February 8, 2022, and filed a charge sheet at the district court on February 18, 2022. District Judge RitaKumari Basnet released Sunita and Ramdev on bail of NPR. 30,000 and NPR. 20,000 respectively on February 20, 2022.

Prakash and Babita were released pending trial on bail of 20 thousand rupees during a court appearance on May 25, 2022.
