Police have arrested Kiran Loniya, 20, of Kotahimai Rural Municipality-1 Sipawa on July 24, 2022, from Sipwa on the charge of poisoning her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter.
On the evening of July 23rd, the accused had consumed pesticide and fed it to her daughter as well. The victim’s father had gone to buy biscuits after the child started crying. Meanwhile, she fainted and was taken to Universal Medical College, Bhairahawa. The victim was declared dead by the hospital.
As the other members of the house did not know about the consumption of poison, the body was buried near the house. The suspicious death of the child led to an investigation. The team of the Area Police Office Lumbini reached the spot on July 25, exhumed the body and took it to Bhim Hospital Bhairahawa for post-mortem.
During the interrogation, Kiran, the mother of the deceased, said that she had planned to commit suicide by taking poison along with her two daughters because her mother-in-law mentally tortured her regularly. However, her four-year-old daughter refused to eat the poison and ran away. Kiran consumed the poison and fed it to her younger daughter as well.
Dhiraj Lonyia, the father of the deceased, filed a complaint at the area police office on July 25.
The health examination of the accused was conducted on July 24 at Bhim Hospital Bhairahawa and her health condition is stable.
