Five-Year-Old Girl Found with Throat Slit Inside a Wooden Box

A five-year-old girl, a resident of Bispitti- 22 of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City, was found critically injured inside a wooden box on July 18, 2026 with her throat slit and multiple injuries inflicted over different parts of her body by a sharp weapon.

The victim’s family has accused 24-year-old known as Akash Rai, also known as Sadanand of allegedly attacking his niece, Laxmi Rai. The accused called Laxmi to his house before allegedly attacking her with a sharp weapon, causing serious injuries to her throat, head, and other parts of her body. According to the child’s father, Suresh Rai, Laxmi suddenly went missing from home since the afternoon of July 18, after which the family members and local residents began to search for her. While the search was ongoing, they found the accused’s house locked which made them suspicious of the situation. After which in the presence of the ward chairperson and local residents, they opened the door of the house and found the child inside a wooden box with her throat slit and multiple sharp-weapon injuries.

He stated that the accused had repeatedly pressured him to transfer a piece of land that the family was planning to sell in order to repay their debts. Suresh Rai, claimed the attack was carried out as an act of revenge over the land dispute.

The severely injured child was first taken to the Provincial Hospital in Janakpurdham for her treatment. On the same day she was referred to Nobel Hospital in Biratnagar after it was found difficult to provide her necessary treatment in the previous. Police stated she was later transferred to Birat Hospital in Biratnagar for additional required services, where she is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madhusudan Neupane, at Dhanusha District Police Office, the accused remains absconding. Police are searching for the suspect and have launched an investigation into the incident.
