Misbehaviour Against Hospital Staff

Incidents of misbehavior have been reported against health workers at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Jumla.

In protest against the misconduct, the health workers at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences have issued a warning to shut down all services except emergency services. They have demanded assurance of security and warned of halting non-emergency services.

Health workers have demanded security assurances, stating that misconduct and threats were made against them by individuals carrying weapons and consuming alcohol within the hospital premises.

On April 22, at around 9:45 AM, some individuals, including a social activist named Upendra Budha Thapa, allegedly entered the premises of the institution and verbally abused and threatened staff members. They also entered the canteen located in the courtyard of the academic building and behaved inappropriately with the staff present there, according to the health workers.

In a petition submitted to the Vice-Chancellor by the staff and doctors of the institution, it is stated: “On Wednesday, at around 9:45 AM, within the premises of Karnali Academy of Health Sciences, some individuals under the name of social activists visited various departments of the institution and verbally abused and threatened staff. They also entered the canteen located in the courtyard of the academic building and misbehaved with the staff present there.”

The health workers further stated that at around 3:50 PM the same day, those individuals again entered the hospital premises and attempted to intimidate duty staff, showing aggressive behavior and trying to spread fear.

They have demanded that the concerned authorities take responsibility for the safety of employees and doctors working within the hospital premises, and have called for an investigation into the incident and necessary legal action against those involved.
