More than 7,000 Individuals Victimized in the Incidents of Human Rights Violations and Abuses in 2022 

INSEC revealed the statistics of 7,376 victims of Human Rights Violations and Abuses in an event held at Kathmandu. 

The data was revealed on the launching ceremony of Nepal Human Rights Year Book 2023, organized by INSEC on 19 February. 

Nepal Human Rights Year Book, which has been published by INSEC since 1992 has incorporated the said data.  

As per INSEC’s documentation, 7,376 individuals were victimized in the incidents of Human Rights Abuses and Violations in 2022. In 2021, a total of 6,285 victims had been documented.

As per the Executive Director of INSEC, Bijaya Raj Gautam, 622 individuals, including 50 females and 572 males became the victims of human rights abuses (committed by the State) and 6,754 individuals, including 5,944 females, 807 males and three gender and sexual minorities became the victims of human rights violations (committed by other parties) in the year 2022.

Based on the published statistics, victims of violence against women was recorded to be the highest- 4,228 in number, among others.  

INSEC documented 1,623 victims (highest) of violence against women in Lumbini Province; 956 in Sudurpaschim Province; 457 in Province one; 434 in Bagmati Province; 337 in Gandaki Province; 211 in Karnali Province and 210 in Madhesh Province this year.
