Program Organized by NGOs Violating the Code of Conduct of Election

Disobeying the Code of Conduct of Election issued by the Election Commission, two NGOs have launched a campaign to promote women candidates for victory in the local level election in Kathmandu.

The United Federation of Women’s Non-Governmental Organizations and the Women’s Network have organized a program against the election code of conduct at Alfa Banquet in New Baneswor, Kathmandu on May 2.

The program was attended by the candidates for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor. From Nepali congress, the mayor candidate from Kathmandu, Srijana Singh, from Bibeksheel Shaja Party the mayor candidate from Kathmandu Samiksha Banskota, from Rastriya Prajatantrik Party the deputy-mayor candidate from Kathmandu Binita Magaiyan, Kriti Tuladhar from Bibeksheel Sajha Party also the deputy-mayor candidate from Kathmandu had attended the event.

There were also candidates from other municipalities. Rajani Thapa, Mayor candidate from Congress for Tokha Municipality, Swarnim Shakya, the deputy-mayor candidate from Lalitpur from Rashtriya Prajatantra Party were also present at the event.

Section (A) of Article 11 of the Election Code of Conduct 2078 issued by the Election Commission states that officials and employees affiliated with non-governmental or private organizations and also such organizations shall not campaign for or against any political party or candidate.

Section (D) of the same article states that no program of any political nature should be held except for the election education campaign.
