A 16-year-old girl of Manthali Municipality-6 Bhaluwajor was tortured by Sher Bahadur Shrestha, 63 from 4pm of March 14 to 12pm of March 15 accusing her of entering his house.
A team of the District Police Office had rescued the victim from the incident spot at 12 pm on March 15.
The accused was arrested by the police and is in the custody of the District Police Office for investigation, informed DSP Raj Kumar Thing.
The victim has alleged that she was tied up with a rope and tortured for 21 hours on the pretext of entering into the house of a non-Dalit.
She further accused that first she was hanged for four hours, then was tied to a pillar of the house for 17 hours and was beaten using Nettle leaves.
Accused Sher Bahadur Shrestha said he had tied up the victim for stealing yoghurt from his house and has demanded to bear the cost for purifying the house.
Ward Member Bhakta Maya Shrestha said that Sher Bahadur had refused to release the girl.
The principal of the victim’s school, Prahlad Subedi, had reached the incident spot as soon as he found out about the incident. The locals had informed the police after Shrestha refused to leave the victim.
