INSEC Monitors Removal of Squatter Settlements in Gaurigaun and Manohara Area

Monitoring of the removal of a squatter settlement in Gaurigaun under Kageshwori Manohara Municipality, Kathmandu district, was carried out by INSEC.

During the on-site monitoring conducted by representatives of the Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC), it was found that the settlement removal process was being carried out in an orderly manner. The monitoring observed a significant presence of security personnel, who were coordinating with residents while carrying out the operation.

Earlier, during the process of removing settlements along the Manohara River corridor, about a dozen security personnel from the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police were injured when stones were hurled at a bulldozer. Following resistance from locals, the work had been suspended for that day.

Concerned authorities had earlier issued public notices instructing residents to vacate the area. The removal of structures in the area has been initiated as part of the long-term plan for the construction of the Bagmati River Corridor and the conservation of the Bagmati civilization.
