District Headquarters Reeks as Garbage Remains Uncollected for Four Months

For the past four months, waste management has not been carried out in Musikot Municipality, causing the district headquarters, Khalanga Bazaar, to become foul-smelling. Since the month of December 2025, uncollected garbage has piled up in the main intersections and alleys of the market area.

Locals have reported that the accumulation of waste in busy locations such as Pushpalal Chowk, Tribeni Chowk, Shahid Gate, and the Agricultural Development Bank Chowk has made it difficult for residents to even move around.

Previously, waste was being disposed of at Panidhunga in Ward No. 2 of Musikot Municipality. However, after local residents protested against the increasing pollution caused by waste disposal there and stopped further dumping, the problem has arisen.

According to resident Amar Bahadur Khadka, the obstruction was necessary because unmanaged waste disposal caused plastic materials to reach farmlands and degrade the soil, while burning the waste spread smoke throughout the village.
