NCP’s Yadav Stages Sit-in in Dhanusha Over Delay in Issuing Victory Certificate

Matrika Prasad Yadav, the House of Representatives candidate from the Communist Party of Nepal for Dhanusha Constituency No. 1, has staged a sit-in protest expressing serious objection to the Election Commission for not issuing the certificate of election despite his victory. Since the morning of March 9, Yadav has been sitting in protest in front of the Office of the Returning Officer along with his supporters and party workers.

According to INSEC representative Santosh Yadav, Matrika Prasad Yadav stated that although the vote counting was completed and the result was announced on March 6 as per the directive of the Election Commission, the failure to issue the certificate of election so far is against the Commission’s procedures and legal process. Yadav also expressed concern that despite the candidacy of Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate Kishori Shah Kamal being annulled and the voting and vote counting completed with him declared the winner, the delay in issuing the certificate is troubling. Yadav said he secured a total of 10,430 votes to win the election.

According to Election Officer Manoj Baral, as per the directive issued by the Election Commission on March 8, the case filed by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Koshori Shah Kamal is currently under consideration at the Supreme Court. Since the hearing of the case is scheduled for March 9, it has been informed that the certificate will be handed over to the winning candidate only after the final verdict is delivered.
