During the coverage of a demonstration organized by CPN (UML) in Hetauda on March 29, members of the party allegedly harassed Santosh BK, a member of the Independent Journalists’ Association of Makwanpur, and cameraman Chakra Bohara.
Regarding the incident, the Independent Journalists’ Association of Makwanpur issued a statement, noting that such incidents seriously undermine the right to freedom of expression and press freedom guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal.
The association called the attention of the District Administration Office of Makwanpur, Nepal Police, and other relevant authorities to the incident, urging them to immediately establish effective security measures to ensure that journalists can perform their professional duties safely. The statement also highlighted the need for event organizers and concerned parties to act responsibly and sensitively toward journalists’ safety.
