Police arrested Tanka Bahadur Basnet, 69, for killing his 60-year-old sister-in-law Tikamaya Karki Basnet of Ratuwamai Municipality-6, who had a speaking disability. According to Inspector Hom Prasad Adhikari of the Area Police Office, Sijuwa, the accused was arrested on July 7 for investigation on charges of attacking his sister-in-law with a sickle on July 5 during a dispute over inheritance. Inspector Adhikari said that preliminary investigation showed the accused killed her while she was cutting grass on July 5 and left the body in the field.
DSP Kopila Chudal of the District Police Office said that the sickle used in the killing was recovered from the accused’s house and the postmortem report showed that she died due to injuries caused by a sharp weapon to the abdomen. The victim’s family received the body after the postmortem at Koshi Hospital on July 7.
