The bench of District Court Judge Mahesh Khanal on June 9 sentenced Sudharkhar Tharu, 23, of Kapilvastu, Budhabhumi Municipality-4 to three years and six months imprisonment for attempting to rape a 21-year-old woman. Along with the sentence, the accused was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 1,50,000, Rs 25,000 as compensation to the victim, and Rs 6,000 to the victim’s relief fund.
The aggrieved party filed a complaint at the Area Police Office, Gorusinghe, Kapilvastu on August 17, 2024, alleging that the accused attempted to rape the woman on August 16. The police arrested the accused on the same day the complaint was filed.
The health examination of the victim was done at Kapilvastu Hospital, Taulihawa on August 17.
