Prabin Tamang, 54, a detainee from Doramba-Sailung Rural Municipality-2, Ramechhap, who was in custody at the District Jail, died during treatment at Koshi Hospital on May 4. Jailer Gaurav Dhungel stated that Tamang, who was in custody on a fraud charge, passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Tamang was admitted to Koshi Hospital on the evening of May 3 after suddenly experiencing breathing difficulties. According to Jailer Dhungel, Tamang passed away around 4 a.m. on May 4 while undergoing treatment. Tamang had been held at Morang Jail on remand, following an order from the District Court, to await trial for a fraud case. The case against Tamang was still under consideration in court when he passed away, as per Jailer Dhungel.
The body has been kept at the morgue of Koshi Hospital, and it will be handed over to Tamang’s family once they arrive, according to the prison administration.
