A five-year-old girl from Lokhim, Thulung Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality-9, has been seriously injured after being attacked by her father, Chamkumar Tamang, 32, with a khukuri. According to DSP Dwarika Prasad Ghimire of the District Police Office, the incident took place during a domestic dispute on April 17.
The minor sustaining a head injury was referred to Kathmandu for further treatment by Thulung Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality as it was not possible to treat her at the district hospital. The municipality arranged for her airlift by helicopter, according to municipal spokesperson Bhojraj Karki. Police have stated that the accused, Chamkumar Tamang, is absconding and that a search is ongoing.
Article 39 of the Constitution of Nepal guarantees the rights of children. Sub-Article 7 of the same article states that no child shall be subjected to physical, mental, or any other form of torture at home, school, or any other place or situation.
