The District Court sentenced Kanhaiya Kumar Sahani, 25, of Damak Municipality-5 to 12 years in prison on charges of raping a 16-year-old girl. The bench of Judge Umesh Prasad Luintel of the Jhapa District Court on March 4 gave the verdict along with an order to pay a fine of Rs 500 as per the Information Officer Ramchandra Basnet.
The aggrieved party had filed a complaint at the Area Police Office, Damak April 4, 2024, accusing the accused of rape on March 24, 2024. Police arrested the accused from his home on April 4, 2024. The victim underwent a health examination at Mechi Provincial Hospital in Bhadrapur the same day.
The police filed a charge sheet against the accused at the District Court through the District Government Attorney’s Office on April 26. As per the order of District Judge Prakash Kumar Adhikari, the accused was remanded to custody for further investigation on April 28.
