Over 29 People Became Victims of Human Rights Violations and Abuses Every Day

The Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) has revealed alarming statistics indicating that more than 29 individuals fall victim to human rights violations and abuses every day in Nepal. This data is presented in the Nepal Human Rights Yearbook 2025, published by INSEC on February 19. As per the statistics documented in the book, a total of 10,734 people were victims of human rights violations and abuses in Nepal in 2024. When calculated on a daily basis, it indicates that 29.40% people were victims each day. According to INSEC, this year, one person was killed by the state, and 265 people were killed by others.

Number of Victims in each provinces:
In 2024, the highest number of victims, 2,340, were from Madhesh Province. The yearbook reveals that more than six people from Madhesh Province were victims daily.

Number of Women killed by family members in 2024:

In 2024, 100 women were killed by family members, slightly fewer than the 109 cases recorded the previous year. In some cases, the victims’ families claimed they were killed, while the accused defended their actions, labeling the deaths as suicides. INSEC also documented cases where women took their own lives after facing abuse and violence from family members over dowry disputes.
