After the floods and landslides from the rains on September 28, dozens of settlements were left in complete darkness due to damage to electricity transformers, poles, and wires. Telephone service has been interrupted because of the lack of electricity. Additionally, services that rely on electricity have been halted in health institutions and other facilities.
In Sunkoshi Rural Municipality, wards 4 and 5, as well as ward 6 of Fikkal Rural Municipality, remain without electricity due to the damage caused by the landslide. Nepal Electricity Authority’s Sindhuli Distribution Center Chief Shishir Lamsal informed that work has started to distribute electricity before Dashain.
There is still a need to supply electricity to a transformer in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-4. Delivering electricity to that settlement is challenging because one of the transformers was swept away by the landslide,” he said. “Seven transformers in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-5 and 12 transformers in Fikkal Rural Municipality-6 have not been connected to electricity.
He said that with the approach of Dashain, workers could not be found, and even those currently working are having trouble coming to work regularly. “It would have taken more than a month with the efforts of the Electricity Authority alone, but with the help of the locals, they managed to deliver the line quickly,” he said.
He stated that the floods and landslides have caused damage exceeding Rs 30 millions to the electricity supply. Transformers, poles, and wires in the Tatiya areas of the Sunkoshi River in Sindhuli have been swept away, and he mentioned that it will take some time to restore electricity distribution in those areas.
