Court Prohibits Ratuwamai Municipality from Cutting Down Trees.

The Biratnagar High Court has ordered Ratuwamai Municipality to stop the indiscriminate cutting of trees for road expansion.

The Biratnagar High Court issued a short-term interim order in the name of Ratuwamai Municipality, prohibiting the cutting of trees under the pretext of road expansion.

On September 24, the bench of Justice Keshav Prasad Bastola of the Biratnagar High Court issued a short-term interim order instructing the municipality not to cut down trees.

Ratuwamai Municipality had issued a public notice on September 13, 2024, announcing that the tree-cutting along the roadside would commence from September 15, 2024.

In response to this notice, lawyers Binod Mani Bhattarai and Laban Neupane filed a writ petition in the court, demanding the suspension of the notice and the protection of the trees.

During the preliminary hearing on the writ, the High Court issued a short-term interim order, according to court spokesperson Hem Bahadur Budhathoki. The court has also instructed the opposition to present a written response within 15 days.

The High Court has also ordered both parties to appear on September 30, 2024 for a discussion regarding the interim order requested by the petitioner.
