High Court Restrained Ratuwamai Municipality from Cutting Trees

The High Court of Biratnagar has issued a short-term interim order to Ratuwamai Municipality, restraining the random cutting of trees for road expansion. The bench of Judge Keshav Prasad Bastola of Biratnagar High Court on 24 September issued the short-term interim order.

Ratuwamai municipality issued a public notice on 13 September that they will start cutting trees on the roadside from 15 September. Following the same notice, Advocates Binodmani Bhattarai and Laban Neupane filed a writ in the High Court, Biratnagar, demanding the cancellation of the municipality’s notice for tree cutting and calling for the protection of plants. Information Officer Hem Bahadur Budhathoki stated that the High Court issued a short-term interim order during the preliminary hearing on the writ. The court subsequently directed the opposition to submit a written response within 15 days.

The High Court has further directed both parties to appear on 30 September 2024, for a hearing regarding the issuance of the interim order requested by the petitioners.
