Police arrested 35-year-old Pakti Rai for injuring her 12-year-old stepdaughter from Khandbari Municipality-5, Malta, with a khukuri (a Nepali weapon) on September 22. Inspector Ramkumar Lamichhane of the district police office said that the 12-year-old girl was injured when her stepmother hit her with a machete on September 22 during a domestic dispute.
Judda Rai, the girl’s father, stated that his daughter sustained injuries to her head and left leg due to the attack by her mother. Due to the severity of her injuries, the girl was transferred to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for further treatment, as she could not be treated at the district hospital. The police reported that an investigation into the incident has been started.
