Due to the risk of landslides in the Bhabani Primary School area of Chayanath Rara Municipality-7, Mathighuir, Mugu, both students and teachers have been unable to attend the school safely. Consequently, classes are now being conducted on the rooftops of houses within the Rural Municipality. Teacher Bidhya Baduwal shared that after the flood on August 20 damaged two school buildings, they had no choice but to conduct classes on the rooftops of houses. When it rains, they are forced to stop the classes. The school, which has 16 students from kindergarten to 3rd grade, is operated by three teachers, including a kindergarten teacher. The school office has also been relocated to a room in one of the houses in the Rural Municipality.
Local resident Karnajung Rawal mentioned that when it rains continuously, children sitting on the cold rooftops often catch a cold. He has urged the local government, Chayanath Rara Municipality, to arrange a safer alternative for holding classes. Bishnu Kumar Bham, the Mayor of Chayanath Rara Municipality, stated that due to the landslide risk in the school area, they have temporarily arranged for classes to be held in the village. She added that once the rains stop, they plan to clear the landslide debris and reopen the school.
