Locals in Darchula Facing Struggles Due to Unrepaired  Water Source

Even a week after the landslide damaged the lifting water source in Malikarjun Rural Municipality, locals still struggle to obtain drinking water. The landslide completely destroyed the solar panel on the tank, leaving the community without access to drinking water. Locals complained that the relevant agencies have not provided any assistance for repairs despite the landslide at the Kotila lifting water source in Malikarjun Rural Municipality-4 completely damaged the water tank, solar panel, and motor water pump.

Local Uddhab Singh Dhami also reported about the water supply problem following the landslide at the Kotila lifting water source. Another resident, Pawansingha Dhami, complained that the water supply, which previously reached their residential area via the solar lift, has been disrupted due to the landslide. Despite this, no repair initiatives have been taken. Dhami added, ‘After the landslide at the water source, we are forced to fetch water from a distance of one and a half hours. One person has to carry the water all day long. The situation has become such that we have to transport water from feeding the cattle to the kitchen.’ Since June 7, 2015, the district drinking water program has provided water to the Rural Municipality at a cost of around Rs 8,000,000, easing previous water supply issues. However, locals are now disappointed as a landslide has caused new damage.

Ward Chairperson Madansingh Dhami stated that the landslide at the lifting water source has left Balichan Primary School, Chadekhan, and 35 households in the Kotila residential area without water. The Rural Municipality has been requested to address the maintenance issue.
