Gyanendra Prasad Shah,40, from Saptari and currently the charge of the Citizen Health Services Center in Panchkhapan, was subjected to beating on August 18. The center is located in Tiger Chowk, Panchkhapan Municipality-2. It is alleged that Gyanendra Prasad Shah was assaulted by 40-year-old Bhishan Jimi of Panchkhapan Municipality-2 on August 18 during his working hours. District Ayurveda Health Center Chief Ram Pramod Chaudhary stated that the accused entered the office under the pretext of getting medicine and assaulted the victim. After the incident, the victim filed a complaint at the police post in Panchkhapan Municipality-2, Tiger Chowk. Subsequently, the police arrested the accused but released him shortly after.
However, on the night of the incident at 11 o’clock, the accused allegedly went to the victim’s room with a sharp weapon (Khukuri), threatened him, and kicked the door. As a result, the victim filed another complaint at the Area Police Office, Bana, on August 19.
The 1998 Declaration on Human Rights Defenders recognizes health workers as human rights defenders. The police stated that the search for those involved in the incident had begun.
