The Nepal Civil Service Employees’ Union, District Working Committee submitted a letter to the Chief District Officer, demanding action against those responsible for beating Rajkumar Rai, 35, the office in-charge, and Pradip Jimi, 30, an on-the-job trainee, both employed at the Nepal Electricity Authority Office in Sankhuwasabha. The incident took place following a dispute over the disconnection of electricity due to non-payment of the electricity bill on July 29, 2024. It is reported that Laxman Lingthep and Harkhang Limbu from Madi Municipality-4 Okharbot threatened the victims to reconnect the line and then subjected them to beating inside the office premises.
Bholaman Rai, the Chairperson of the Nepal Civil Service Employees’ Union, District Working Committee reported that they submitted the letter to the Chief District Officer, Dhruva Bahadur Khadka on August 5 . Rai expressed that it is deeply troubling for employees to be beaten within the office premises. He noted that such violence against staff could severely affect the quality of service delivery. Additionally, it is reported that Lingthep had previously beaten and threatened two other employees at the Madi branch. Khadka assured that those involved in beating the employees will be arrested and action will be taken.
The Nepal Electricity Authority cut the line after Lakshman Lingthep’s crusher factory in Madi did not pay the dues of Rs 6,00,040. Inspector Baburam Karki reported that a case has been registered against Lingthep and Limbu at the Area Police Office, Chainpur, on July 30 for inhuman behavior. According to the District Police Office, Chainpur, the accused have absconded following the complaint, and a search for them is ongoing. They issued a statement protesting the incident and demanded assurances of security. Shatrudhan Yadav, Chief of the Nepal Electricity Authority Madi branch office, reported that the office has been paused since July 30 due to the incident. With six staff members employed at the office, its closure has caused significant inconvenience to customers.
