Tanahu District Court has handed down sentences to three individuals, including the husband of the deceased, in connection with the alleged gang rape and subsequent killing of a 45-year-old woman, Kumari Bhujel, from Jalbhanjyang, Municipality-6. Justice Kamal Raj Bishta’s final verdict on the case, swiftly registered after the incident, has levied a 12-year prison term, along with a fine of 2 lakhs, compensation of 1 lakh, and 4 thousand rupees deposited in the victim’s relief fund, against 22-year-old Shyam Bahadur Bhujel of Municipality-6, Tanahu.
Moreover, two 17-year-old boys from the same area involved in the incident have each received 8-year prison sentences. Initially sentenced to 12 years, their minor status resulted in a reduction, as revealed by District Court spokesperson Keshav Paudel.
In the matter of his own wife’s killing, Chandra Bahadur Bhujel, 46, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, a fine of 1 lakh 50 thousand rupees, and 8 thousand rupees deposited in the victim’s relief fund.
As stated by spokesperson Paudel, on the night of March 12, 2022, Sambhahadur Bhujel, along with two others, entered the victim’s house and assaulted her husband before forcibly taking him outside and committing the heinous act. The court established that the accused committed the crime under the influence of alcohol.
Following the rape, Chandrabahadur, fearing they might inform his wife, fatally assaulted her with a stone inside the house. The incident was reported to the District Police Office by the victim’s sons on March 14, 2022, leading to the arrest of all four suspects on March 15, 2022.
The post-mortem examination took place at Damouli Hospital on March 13, 2022.
