Classes have come to a complete halt at two schools in Sisuwakhola, Silichong Rural Municipality–1, Sankhuwasabha, after floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall caused extensive damage.
According to Rural Municipality Chairperson Mewahang, the floods and landslides damaged Kalika Secondary School in Newatar, Silichong–1, and Bageshwari Basic School in Silichong–4, forcing both schools to suspend classes.
Following the arrival of the monsoon in Koshi Province on June 19, 2026, rainfall has intensified across the Himalayan district of Sankhuwasabha, disrupting electricity, telecommunications, and transportation services in Silichong Rural Municipality.
The chairperson said roads connecting the rural municipality headquarters have been blocked, while the central electricity supply, micro-hydropower systems, internet, and communication services have been affected, disrupting public service delivery.
Floods have completely damaged two local micro-hydropower projects, and around 70 percent of communication services have been disrupted, further affecting daily life.
A landslide severely damaged Kalika Secondary School in Newatar, cracking all 15 classrooms and destroying educational materials, leaving its 170 students unable to attend classes. Bageshwari Basic School in Silichong–4 also sustained damage to its school building and learning materials, leading to the suspension of classes there as well.
Chairperson Mewahang has called on the Koshi Provincial Government and the federal government to provide immediate assistance for damage assessment, relocation of affected communities to safer areas, relief distribution, and rehabilitation.
