Gopal Baraili, 47, a journalist from Mukwa, Pakhribas Municipality-7, has alleged that he was threatened over a news report.
Parshu Karki, 44, of Andhrung, Mahalaxmi Municipality–7, reportedly threatened to beat on June 18, over a news-related issue, according to the victim journalist.
Karki, who is also a regional member of the Nepali Congress in Dhankuta, allegedly abused the journalist in a caste-based manner via Messenger on June 18 and threatened him to “take care of his family,” according to journalist Baraili.
Baraily, who is the operator and station manager of Radio Dhankuta FM, stated that the accused had subjected him to verbal abuse, threats, and mental pressure through social media.
Journalists have protested the incident of threats of physical attack against a journalist over news reporting. The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Dhankuta branch, issued a statement on June 19, condemning the incident and demanding that the perpetrator be brought under legal action.
The alleged threat came after a news report was published on Dhankuta FM.com on June 18, regarding an investigation by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) into Siddharth Thapa, grandson of former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa and son of Nepali Congress leader and National Assembly member Sunil Bahadur Thapa, in relation to a passport printing case.
