Police arrested Kumar Thapa Magar, 42, also known as “Nepali Bro,” of Paiyutar, Lolang, Tarakeshwor Municipality–6, on June 6, on charges of killing his wife, Ishwari Bhujel, 42, on June 5.
According to police, the accused allegedly struck his wife on the head with an iron rod while she was riding on a scooter in Paiyutar, causing serious injuries. She was immediately taken to Tarakeshwor Hospital for treatment and was later referred to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, for further medical care. Doctors declared Bhujel dead during the course of treatment.
In connection with the incident, police also arrested Bikram Thapa Magar, 36, of Tarakeshwor Rural Municipality–4, Nuwakot, currently residing in Paiyutar, Lolang, Tarakeshwor Municipality–6, Kathmandu; Pujan Thapa Chhetri, 40, of Balaju, Kathmandu Metropolitan City–16; and Pratiksha Acharya, 25, of Hima Rural Municipality–1, Jumla, currently residing in Gokarneshwor Municipality–8, Kathmandu, on June 6.
The victim’s family filed a complaint against the accused at the District Police Office, Kathmandu, on June 7. Police obtained a five-day remand extension from the Kathmandu District Court to continue the investigation.
The post-mortem examination was conducted on June 8 at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. According to SP Pawan Bhattarai of the Kathmandu District Police Range, the couple had reportedly been preparing for a divorce.
