Parent Allegedly Beaten by Police Over School Fee Dispute

Feku Das, 43, of Harkathwa, Ward No. 5 of Dhanakaul Rural Municipality, has alleged that he was tortured and beaten by police constable Ramjivan Paswan after being summoned for questioning at the Harkathwa Area Police Office on June 3, 2026.

According to the victim, he sustained serious injuries to his left arm, thigh, and back as a result of the assault. His elder brother, Indal Das, informed that after receiving initial treatment at Hanumant Hospital in Barhathwa, he was referred to the National Trauma Center in Kathmandu for further medical care.

Two sons of the victim, Feku Das, study at Signing Star Boarding School in Harkathwa. The school’s operator, Sanjay Sah, had filed an application with the District Administration Office in Malangwa, Sarlahi, on June 1, 2026, claiming that Das had an outstanding school fee payment of Rs, 13,600. The District Administration Office subsequently instructed the Harkathwa Area Police Office to conduct the necessary inquiry.

Feku Das stated that although he was asked to sign a document, he refused because he claimed that all school fees had already been paid. He alleged that, following his refusal to sign, police constable Ramjivan Paswan took him into a room inside the Harkathwa Area Police Office and severely beat him with a bamboo stick and boots.

According to Sarlahi District Police Office Superintendent of Police (SP) Rabindranath Paudel, a dispute arose between constable Ramjivan Paswan and Das, and when Das allegedly attempted to assault the police officer, force was used in self-defense, including striking him with a baton. SP Paudel further stated that an investigation committee led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bed Prasad Gautam has been formed and an inquiry into the incident is underway.
