Windstorm Damages 107 Houses, Sheds, and Schools

Strong winds on May 25 and 26 in Gulmi have damaged the roofs of 107 houses, sheds, and public structures, disrupting daily life. The storm caused significant physical damage by blowing off the roofs of homes, toilets, schools, cooperatives, and temples across five local levels of the district.

According to Inspector Parbat Kumar K.C. of the District Police Office, Gulmi, in Wards 4, 5, 6, and 7 of Malika Rural Municipality alone, 71 houses, sheds, and public structures were damaged by strong winds.

In Ward No. 7, Ghamir, Malika Rural Municipality, the roofs of 45 houses, sheds, schools, cooperatives, and temples were blown off by strong winds.

Following the storm, families of Toph Bahadur Karki, Manju Karki, Bhim Bahadur Bishwakarma, and others in Ghamir have taken shelter at neighbors’ homes after their houses and sheds were destroyed.

The roof of Devistan Secondary School in Ghamir was also blown off, causing difficulties in teaching and learning for students. Local cooperatives, Bhairavkali Boarding School, and the temple used by the Ghimire community for ancestral worship were also damaged after their roofs were torn off by the storm, according to Inspector Parbat Kumar K.C. of the District Police Office Gulmi.

Similarly, in Wards 4, 5, and 6 of the same rural municipality, 26 houses, sheds, toilets, and school buildings were completely damaged after their roofs were blown away. Significant damage was also reported in Wards 1, 2, and 3 of Malika Rural Municipality, although police said they are still collecting details and a complete assessment has not yet been finalized.
