Police arrested Rita Kumari Yadav, 43, of Surunga Municipality-3, Laxmipur, on May 6, on allegations of facilitating the disappearance of a 14-year-old girl who had been employed as a domestic worker, following reported sexual exploitation.
Earlier, on March 18, the victim’s family had filed a complaint at the Area Police Office, Kadarbone, against Maheswar Prasad Yadav, 45, Kundan Aryal, 21, and Dharmadev Yadav, 30, of Surunga Municipality-3, Laxmipur, alleging that the girl had been abducted. Police stated that Rita Kumari Yadav was arrested, allegedly assisting in the disappearance, and is currently under investigation.
According to the victim’s family, the girl had been working as a domestic worker in Maheshwar Prasad Yadav’s household for the past seven years. After she returned home during Holi, physical changes were noticed, and a medical examination revealed she was seven months pregnant.
On March 27, the girl and her sister came into contact with the police. It is alleged that Maheshwar called them under the pretext of arranging an abortion for the victim and taking her to Lahan, Siraha, but instead threatened them and took them to Jokahi, Bihar (India), where both sisters were held captive.
The other accused individuals remain at large, and search efforts are ongoing, according to the District Police Office, Saptari.
