Teaching Activities Disrupted After Strong Winds Blow Off School Roof

Teaching activities at Jyoti Secondary School in Ransa Malapani of Tila Rural Municipality–9 have been disrupted after strong winds blew away the roof of the school building on May 22, 2026. The school already had limited classrooms, and the damage caused by the storm further affected regular classes.

The strong winds not only tore off the school’s roof but also damaged most of its wooden structures. Following the storm, the solar power system installed at the school was completely affected, disrupting electricity supply at the school.

According to the school’s principal Motiram Budha, the storm caused damage estimated at around Rs. 800,000 to 1 million.

Parents have become increasingly worried after the school, which was built through years of struggle, local voluntary labor, the hard work of guardians, and support from the community, was reduced to ruins due to the natural disaster.

“The government policy is to conduct classes five days a week. The children’s studies had only recently started becoming regular again, but then this disaster struck. Now we are facing difficulties regarding where and how to continue classes for the children,” Principal Budha said.
