Declaration of Pressure Campaigns on the Occasion of International Women’s Day

On the occasion of the 112th International Women’s Day, a rally and corner meeting has been jointly organized by INSEC and other civil society organizations working in the field of women’s rights in Kathmandu on March 8.

The slogan of the year is ‘Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.’

Women’s rights activist Dr. Renu Adhikari said that violence against women could not be controlled in Nepal because their work is still not respected.

She further said that until women established their rights over their labour, body and identity, sustainable development and social justice will not be ensured.

Similarly, Sunita Danuwar, chairperson of Sunita Foundation, stressed on the need to strengthen women’s rights at home to change society. She added that the state and society should play a transformative role in making policies for the rights of women.

Human rights activist Bimal Lama said that the existing social structure has narrowed the mobility of women and their rights over their bodies while on the other hand, their labour has been socially and culturally excluded. He stressed the need to establish the belief that the work of every sector of women is productive labour for the respect of women’s rights.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Nepal Public Health Student Society presented an awareness street drama. A pressure campaign was also declared for the period from March 8, 2022 to March 8, 2023 with the participation of Women Human Rights Defenders Network, various organizations and students.
