During the Gen Z protest corruption, mismanagement, and social media, 83 government structures and 42 private properties were found to have been subjected to arson and vandalism in Koshi Province. Among the 14 districts of Koshi Province, arson and vandalism of physical structures during the Gen Z movement were reported in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Udayapur, Ilam, Taplejung, Solukhumbu, and Terhathum.
In Panchthar, Okhaldhunga, Khotang, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, and Sankhuwasabha, while protests and submission of memoranda took place during the Gen Z movement, no incidents of arson or vandalism were reported, according to monitoring by INSEC.
According to the preliminary report prepared by the INSEC Koshi Province Office, Biratnagar, in consultation with INSEC representatives and through media monitoring, the highest damage was reported in Jhapa. During the Gen Z movement, between 8 and 9 September, a total of 31 physical structures were damaged in Jhapa, including 22 government structures and 9 private properties.
In Morang, arson and vandalism occurred in 26 structures, comprising 20 government and 6 private structures. In Sunsari, 28 physical structures were affected, including 16 government and 12 private structures. According to the preliminary report from INSEC Koshi Province Office, in Ilam, 8 physical structures were damaged, including 4 government and 4 private properties. In Taplejung, 7 structures were affected, comprising 3 government and 4 private structures.
In Solukhumbu, 1 government structure was vandalized.
During the Gen Z movement, in Terhathum, the birthplace of former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli was set on fire.
