Human Rights Activists Demand Ensuring Right to Truth and Justice

Human rights activists in Banke have demanded the assurance of the right to truth and justice. They have highlighted that despite 18 years since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Accord, victims are still deprived of the truths behind the events. In a press release issued on March 24, they urged the government to conclude the obstructed transitional justice process and guarantee justice for the victims. Conflict victims and rights activists have urged the government to ensure a comprehensive arrangement that provides victims with dignity and justice.

They have emphasized through a letter of attention that the recommendation committee for the appointment of officials to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons should be formed soon to implement the transitional justice process. They have also stressed the need to appoint capable, qualified, and victim-friendly officials who have worked in the field of transitional justice.
