Police arrested Hira Tamang, 34, from Tarkeshwor Rural Municipality-5, Nuwakot District, on March 16, on charges of trafficking a 34-year-old woman. SP Narendra Kunwar of the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau (AHTB) stated that the victim was lured to Iraq with the promise of an attractive salary for domestic work. She was sent to Iraq via Dubai, where she was placed in various households, subjected to extreme labor exploitation, and physical abuse, and held captive. It is reported that the victim returned to Nepal from Iraq via Dubai on February 25. She filed a complaint at the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau, Babarmahal on March 2. Based on the same complaint the police team from the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau Babarmahal arrested the accused on March 16.
The District Court of Kathmandu granted a five-day extension to investigate the human trafficking case against Tamang.
