The family of 23-year-old Bajuddin Ansari of Dewangunj Rural Municipality-2 alleged that he was tortured in the custody of the District Police Office. Jalekha Khatun, 55-year-old mother of Bajuddin, alleged that the police tortured Bajuddin Ansari, who was detained on July 17 for allegedly stealing a goat during the Muharram festival from Buski, Harinagar Rural Municipality-7. She claimed that the police broke his arm while he was in custody.
Jalekha Khatun also alleges that although the police claimed the goat was stolen from Ghuski in Harinagar Rural Municipality-7, it was not stolen from anyone. She asserts that the police purposely tortured her son in custody on the charge of theft. The aggrieved party on July 28 urged INSEC and the Human Rights Commission to take action for justice for her detained son, who was beaten and injured by the police on the night of July 10. They also claimed that even when the police took him to the District Hospital for treatment, he was tied up during the treatment.
Additionally, when INSEC inquired about the incident with the District Police Office regarding the incident, SP Bipin Regmi that Ansari was not tortured but sustained an injury to his hand from slipping and falling. SP Regmi stated that beating or torturing detainees is not practiced.
