Accused Arrested for Assaulting Journalists

Police arrested 6 people for assaulting 28-year-old journalist Ranjita Dhamala of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City-8.

Victim  alleged that 6 people assaulted her while she was being treated at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan (Ghopa) on 17 July.

DSP Nabinkrishna Bhandari of the District Police Office informed that Police arrested 42-year-old Chandrakala Thebe of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan city-15, 35-year-old Muna Rai of Dharan-19, 56-year-old Pramila Rai of Dharan-17, 32-year-old Srijana Begha of Dharan-18, 45-year-old Sharmila Rai and 52 year-old Sharkini Thapa Magar  of Dharan-11  for investigation, for allegedly assaulting journalist Dhamala.

A case was registered  against the accused under the title of indecent conduct and the  further investigation is going on .Victim alleged that  the mayor’s supporters assaulted him after the victim  wrote a news report about Dharan Sub-Metropolitan Mayor Harak Sampang’s work in the city.

Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, 1988 defines journalists as human rights defenders.
