Police arrested 23-year-old Pradip Gupta, on May 7 for the charge of suicide abetment against his 20-year-old wife Nisha Gupta of Siddharthnagar Municipality-1, Belahiya.
A complaint against the accused was filed at the District Police Office on May 6, stating that the accused repeatedly subjected the victim to domestic violence and tortured her for not bringing dowry. They alleged that the victim, unable to bear the torture forced herself to commit suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan on the night of April 12.
DSP Manohar Prasad Bhatta of the District Police Office informed INSEC that the accused has been arrested on the basis of the complaint filed and further investigation is going on.
The postmortem of the body was done on April 14 at Bhim Hospital, Bhairahawa. Additionally, the victim’s 48-year-old mother Kiran Devi Sahu Gupta, said that the body was cremated the same day.
