Fifty six year-old Parshuram Phuyal of Saptakoshi Municipality-2, a security guard at Nepal Bank Limited Fattepur branch, Saptakoshi Municipality-1, was found dead in the morning of 9 May.
DSP Dhundiraj Neupane, Information Officer of District Police Office Saptari, informed the INSEC representative that Phuyal was killed by an unknown person with the use of a Nepalese machete.
Blood stains were seen around the dead body, as per the bank source. According to Karna Thapa, another security guard of the same bank, when the guard’s room was not opened even till 7 am, the bank staff got suspicious and opened the door, finding him dead. Thapa informed that he had gone to Gaighat, Triyuga municipality, Udayapur for his mother’s Sarradhha (a ritual that one performs to pay homage to one’s pitṛs, especially to one’s dead parents) on 8 May.
DSP Neupane reported that the CCTV footage of the bank shows a person wearing a mask entering the bank after 12 midnight killed Phuyal. Although the intention was robbery, the attempt to steal from the bank was not successful. It is reported that the police brought in trained dogs from the K-9 Branch of Lalgadh Police Station, Mithila Municipality, Dhanusha for the investigation. However, the accused couldnt be found yet.
The aggrieved party allowed the body to be picked up only after reaching an agreement with the bank late on the night of May 9. The situation escalated to the extent that the police had to resort to baton charges when the body was initially denied for pickup.
Saptari Police stated that the body was sent to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, for post-mortem after the bank agreed to employ a family member of the victim and provide fair compensation to the family. Phuyal has a wife, two sons, and two daughters.
