Landslide Victims Voices Over Not Getting Relief for Damage Caused by Heavy Rain

The landslide victims have complained that no relief was given to the damage caused due to incessant rain in Barai Rural Municipality-6 of Sarkegad  on July 28, 2023.

One of the victims Ram Chandra Sunar expressed that three houses including his, Janak Sunar’s, and Bigyan Sunar’s  in Barai Rural Municipality were completely destroyed by the flood and landslide. He added that despite seeking help from the Ward Office and the District Disaster Management Committee they have not received any assistance or attention.
The landslide had caused extensive damage to food, utensils, clothes, and other belongings in their houses and  no one has paid attention to their situation despite providing evidence of the incident. In addition, Sunar emphasized that the Ward Office and Rural Municipality should provide relief assistance to the affected families. Furthermore, he also expressed concern about the need for public representatives and relevant officers to pay attention to this matter.

The Rural Municipality didn’t offer relief when one of their houses was damaged by a landslide last year. Now with three households facing damage worth Rs 900,000 still no relief has been provided.  The victim mentioned that the ward chairman has not played a positive role in resolving this matter.

When asked about the issue to the Ward Chairperson Padam Bahadur Shahi, he  stated that they did not recommend for the  compensation because the houses are partially damaged.
