Formation of a Recommendation Committee to Appoint Officials to the Transitional Justice Commission.

The government has formed a Recommendation Committee on April 12, 2024, to appoint officials to the Truth Determination and Reconciliation  Commission as well as the Investigation Commission for the individuals affected by disappearances.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on April 12, 2024, under the chairmanship of former Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra, informed both the President and members of the committee formed to recommend both the chairperson and members of the commissions, Minister of Information and Communications Rekha Sharma, and Government Spokesperson.

The members of the Recommendation Committee include former Chief Justice of the National Human Rights Commission, Jagadish Sharma Paudel, former President of the Non-Governmental Organization Federation, Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki, and Stella Tamang.

Since June 2022, amid the political parties’ bargaining to immediately form the Truth Determination and Reconciliation Commission to investigate individuals affected by disappearances and to ensure its success, the government and political parties have been engaged in negotiations. They have been shifting blame regarding addressing the grievances of the affected parties, with a mere lip service to responsibility and accountability.” – expressed the aggrieved party, Suman Adhikari.
