The District Court of Kailali has declared life imprisonment to nine perpetrators for killing Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Govinda BK of Kanchanpur District’s Punarbas Municipality-9 and policeman Ram Bahadur Saud of Bannigadi Jayagad Rural Municipality-5. Both the deceased were delegated at Jugeda Police Station of Dhangadi Sub-metropolitan-12.
The verdict was given by the bench of Judge Jayananda Paneru of the District Court, Kailali on October 26, 2021. Shrestedar Raibhan Kunjeda of the District Court told INSEC that Ramniwas Rana, 27, Rajkumar Rana, 29, Suresh Rana, 30, Rajendra Rana, 20, Rohit Rana, 23, Dalram Rana, 29, Rohit Rana, 20, of Dhangadi Submetropilitan-10 and Ramgopal Rana, 29, and Amar Rana, 34 of Dhangadi Submetropilitan-11 were proven guilty by the bench of Judge Paneru.
Police had arrested them from Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan-12 Jugeda on October 17, 2020, on the accusation of charging a sharp weapon against the police on duty who had gone to the site to stop the smuggling of peas (vegetable) from Nepal to India based on a piece of secret information.
The body of ASI Govinda BK was found dumped in the Mohana River on October 19 and the body of Ram Bahadur Saud was found buried in the same River on October 21.
The post-mortem of BK’s body was conducted on October 20 and the post-mortem of Saud’s body was conducted on October 21 at Seti Provincial Hospital, Dhangadi. Their bodies were then handed over to their family for final rituals.
